Well, if you have a clearly defined task it's easy. When using them for my pipeline of writing explanations for Chinese words I have clear ranking, for example - opus 5.5 clearly better than opus 5 at writing and knowing details, annoying nit picker when it comes to finding errors (high accuracy, low usefulness) all in repeatable numbers on different datasets. The problem is that these models are most useful when you are facing a new task that you haven't encountered before. And yup then it's astrology.
Even if you could get a frontier model, you would not be able to run it on any Mac. So speculating on what M7 or M9 will achieve in 5 years (if we even still exist) seems pointless.
True, but do you need a 10,000 dollar machine to do so?
I would love to find an excuse to buy a 10,000 dollar machine! But I cant find one yet. My current cloud bill is in excess of 400 USD per month. Just can't achieve frontier model capabilities locally.
Sounds like there already exist some pretty crazy biological weapons in existence. I dont know if it will be 5 years or 20 years, but at some point some fanatic will try to kill the rest of us.
I can't argue with that model, but in the past they actually did new and interesting things! The M series processor, the iPhone. Lets hope new CEO who is more of an engineer then the last one was ramps things up.
most of their innovations are in stuff that would be boring to go into detail with. They talked about the advancements in their A series processors (but you left that out), they talk about their complex layering to prevent a crease from forming, they talk about the dynamic audio. Love em or hate em but you cant say they arent doing new things.
