There's been some recent studies that suggest a cooler temperature is better for quality of sleep and improves insulin sensitivity [1]. There's another company that sells pads that can lower the temperature of the bed [2].
I think Anonabox will have more success than Safeplug because it's open source. Selling a black box to the privacy conscious never sounded like a good idea.
What bugs me is the developer hadn't touched Mou in a year and was trying to sell it at one point [1]. Then some developers decided to make an open source version of it called MacDown [2], which rubbed the Mou developer the wrong way, and he and his friends were bashing it as a blatant rip off of Mou [3]. The renewed interest in the project only seemed to come about when MacDown started getting traction.
I've used Mou and I think it's pretty stable. I don't see a problem with simply charging for it now. It seems unnecessary to raise money and bring on a whole team.
The developers are lazy about maintaining this software. It's not called 'stable'. I don't expect they would do better after this campaign. If you don't do it right, there is no reason to criticize others for doing it better.
As other people mentioned, most of what you described is offered through credit unions. But most credit unions are small and don't have the capacity to offer great online/mobile experiences. I would be interested to see a project to open source a solution for credit unions to customize and use to offer a better user experience.
1) The Register call-to-action isn't clear what the result will be. Does it create an event? Will it let me download the app? How is this different than creating an account in the app? Can I not create an account in the app?
2) The floating "Learn More..." is unnecessary. People know how to scroll.
3) The alternating layout communicates that they're separate features rather than steps in a process. I would explore different ways to communicate the steps.
4) Make it very clear the problem your app is solving. Like petalpete mentioned in his suggestion, "event" is vague and generic. Try to use terms that clear and specific like concert, holiday party, etc.
5) Maybe consider curating the recent images. Some of them are fairly low quality.

Overall I think it was a well thought out response to the petition. However, I think the exposure that Americans have to the metric system was played up. Yes, it's been taught in schools but lack of practical use in everyday life means it was quickly forgotten. From my own experience, I had no reference for rough conversions between systems until a couple years ago when I started going to a gym that had all the weights in kilos. Only then did I have some reference to how the two systems related without looking it up.
Without something that at least fakes what a typical interaction would be, I don't think anyone could give you feedback aside from whether they like the color/visual treatment.
