Known2U | Full Stack Engineer | Full-Time | Remote | USA Only
Small bootstrapped company in the ETL integration space. Looking for a full stack developer to help us build out our platform. Our core technologies are built around the java ecosystem(e.g. spring boot, apache camel). Ideal candidate would have experience working with java and associated technologies as well as a familiarity with sql and javascript. Depending on your comfort/desire besides working on the core of the product there are opportunities to work with a modern javascript framework and to help with our cloud build out. Looking for a pragmatic individual to help us improve our product and process.

The GoDaddy thing is basically, "Pay us extra and we'll click for you automatically on May 8th." It's like paying Southwest Airlines $15 to check you in right at t-minus 24 hours before your flight...
We us Ember at my company. We started using it around the 1.0 release. We have been very happy with it. But as a shop that doesn't really have any dedicated front end developers the most frustrating thing for us is that their conventions are always changing or worse threatening to change but don't so your left always wondering if what you are doing is the right thing. People have been waiting for controllers to be deprecated for years. That being said I think they do have to make these changes to keep the framework moving forward and I appreciate the amount of effort they put in to keep things backward compatible. I think now that they are providing code mods for a lot of the new conventions people won't be as hesitant to upgrade. Before there was a lot of friction when upgrading to a new version that had different conventions and you felt you should go and modify your existing code to follow the new conventions. I have confidence that with their strong user base they will stay relevant for many types of applications. If people are hesitant to try it I'd tell them to keep in mind that even though Ember has conventions and provides the ember way of doing things it is possible to integrate most of the exciting things going on in the js world with Ember. Some people even use react components in their ember apps.
Does anyone know if any of the laptop vendors that pre-install ubuntu will be doing any promotions or hardware updates to coincide with the 18.04 release?
Amazingly he basically trained on his lunch hour while studying to be a physician when preparing to run the sub 4 mile. And then went on to be a distinguished medical researcher. He had such a positive influence on running and medicine. If there ever was an athlete that deserved the moniker role model it was him.
Sometimes I wonder how much genetics can explain things like this. Obviously, lettuce has never run a 4 minute mile, but how big is the variance in factors enabling ostensibly normally developed humans to perform impressive feats like this?
Read Sports Gene by David Epstein. He discusses a lot of the genetics vs. developing one's body specifically for a sport, with a large focus on distance running.
From what I've skimmed genes and gene expression seem to play a huge role (e.g. [1] [2]), but it shows the signs of being a multidimensional space where researchers are far from finished even figuring out what the dimensions actually are. Some of the popular press has mutated this into the notion of generic "exercise super-responders" and "exercise non-responders", but as usual they seem to be dumbing it down to the point of saying something almost the opposite of what the research actually supports.
