Here's hoping that it could at least rid us of the inefficiency that is web apps, seeing as we've seen unprecedented growth in CPU power over the last decades, yet are still very much doing the same stuff, if on other people's computers.


I'm surprised that this doesn't get brought up more often.

Somehow I have to upgrade all my hardware every few years, which of course increases the demand for chips, even though the software I use doesn't have much extra functionality over the software I used ten years ago. Nicer UI, yes, and I would argue that modern software is often more reliable than software ten years ago, but these things shouldn't require faster hardware.

This might be against the ethos here on HN, but I'm still of the opinion that 95% of the webpages would be much better if they were written in plain HTML.


I’m hoping it encourages game developers to spend a bit more engineering time on optimizing their games for a lower minspec.

Or, knowing that users won’t be purchasing new computers at as fast of a clip will encourage software made for a wider audience.
