You must absolutely refuse to work anything you do not actually want outside of work. That will make all the difference. If you for some reason would get a job outside of your profession would you do it outside work too? That goes for any profession. If you want to make difference you have to plan in some time for that. Not everyone is that lucky to get dream job right out of college, actually I believe most of us don't. Only you can create (a path to) your dream job.
