People can still buy whatever Lego they want. Several people in this thread mentioned buying non-pink Lego for their girls.

I have also bought pink Playmobil (big Lego competitor in Germany, don't know about elsewhere) for my son.

I think people actually want to differentiate themselves from other people. Pink is just one of many ways of saying "I'm different/special".
