Mark Fisher in Capitalist Realism touches on this concept, where there's a constantly shifting opposition to the market that itself becomes engulfed in its own market, to be advertised.

So for example all the productivity/digital detox channels and videos are themselves a consumer demand to be watched on YouTube, on phones. And now we have anti-AI products marking themselves higher for a feature that didn't previously exist. It's like the tree of capital gets split at every turn.

Eggs are IaC.

It's also crazy how slow countries have been to build solar panel roofs on car parks, this should have been done so long ago with the budget that car infrastructure gets.

The reason it's trending right now is because it's a convenient price, simple to use and making people read more because of its size. If it helps people cut down on phone use then it's a good product.

The build quality could be better, but there doesn't exist a similar product with better build quality.

Can you build a DIY version that's significantly cheaper?

Well, this was my thinking for getting one, we shall see when it arrives :P

Edit: Also you can choose to install a nice open source community firmware

Couldn't you say all of that about the Kindle as well? Which also has an easy way to buy books.

There's also the fact that using digital devices negatively affects our breathing a lot: https://www.npr.org/2024/06/10/1247296780/screen-apnea-why-s...

Considering how much we use them now it could change the default state significantly, and maybe we do have to consciously relearn the best way to breath.

Wow. Tell that to the cobalt miners in the DRC.

Did "The West" cause warlords in DRC to exist? Even if you ignore the efforts by western firms to not buy cobalt from the DRC, it's questionable whether the DRC would be better if they had no exploitable natural resources. Neighboring countries without natural resources aren't exactly paragons of good governance either.

If we use world models to train AI systems, are we not essentially forcing something to live so it can gather data for us?

Yes, we haven't gone that far with creating consciousness yet, but there is gonna be a lot of money around neural computing devices for consumers in the coming decades, so that will speed up knowing what sense data you need for consciousness.

> are we not essentially forcing something to live so it can gather data for us?

Wait until you learn about what we do to chickens.

The Matrix is imminent

Being poor in a capitalist country is still slavery - you don't work, you don't eat (as well as have access to accomodation, healthcare, public transport).

OpenWRT One? Not sure about AP's though.

There's no meaningful, usable formally-proven FOSS OS. Being FOSS isn't enough.
